Economic Buzz: China leading economic index ticks down in September

The Conference Board Leading Economic Index(LEI) for China ticked down by 0.1% in September 2025 to 146.7, after contracting by 0.4% in August.

As a result, the LEI declined by 2.0% over the six-month period from March to September 2025, continuing a 1.3% decline over the previous six-month period between September 2024 and March 2025.

The Conference Board Coincident Economic Index (CEI) for China increased by 0.4% in September 2025 to 156.5, after expanding by 0.3% in August.

Overall, the LEI grew by 2.6% over the six-month period from March to September 2025, close to twice the 1.4% growth observed over the previous six-month period between September 2024 and March 2025.
