Economic Buzz: Japan's leading index hits highest level in three months

Japan's leading index rose more than initially estimated in January to hit the highest level in three months, the latest data from the Cabinet Office showed on Wednesday. The leading index, which measures future economic activity, edged up to 108.3 in January from 107.9 in December. In the flash report, the score was 108.0. The coincident index that measures the current economic situation came in at 116.1, rising marginally from 116.0 in the previous month. The reading for January was revised down from 116.2. The lagging index also rose to 111.2 in January from 109.4 in December.
