The total number of active drilling rigs for oil and gas in the United States rose for the week ended April 17 following the recent price slide, according to new data that Baker Hughes published on Thursday, following a large 7-rig dip in the prior week. The total rig count in the US rose by 2 to 585 rigs, according to Baker Hughes, down 34 from this same time last year. The number of oil rigs rose by 1 to 481'down by 30 compared to this time last year. The number of gas rigs also rose by 1, to 98 for a loss of 8 active gas rigs from this time last year. Miscellaneous rigs stayed the same at 6.
